Portland Open Studios Tour 2014

PDXOS 2014 Calendar ImageIt’s that time of year again for the Portland Open Studios tour!  This exciting annual event is where 96 artists and craftspeople in Portland open their studios to the public.  The self guided tour provides you with a map of artists in the area and pictures of their work. This is a great opportunity to see the private spaces where artists work, view demonstrations, and learn more about the creative process. The tour takes place during the two middle weekends of October: 11th-12th, & 18th-19th from 10am-5pm each day.

To discover other artists’ studios in your neighborhood and experience the full range of artists at work, pick up a ticket in one of three forms: an iPhone or Android app for $9.99, a Tour Guide Calendar for $20, or a Map-only ticket for $5.   Tour guides and maps are available from local retailers including all New Seasons stores and local independent art stores Muse Art & Design, Collage, I’ve Been Framed, and Columbia Art Supplies, as well as online. You can find out more about the tickets and watch a video about the tour experience at: bit.ly/PDXOSVideo

What River Are You Made Of?

Wholly H2OI’m thrilled to be a part of the show “What River Are You Made Of? Tuolumne Inside Out Art Exhibit” which is the second in the Wholly H2O series: Standing With the Watershed Art Exhibits.  This series of shows seeks to trace the source of water from our taps to the rivers from which it originates and ask people the question, “Where does your water come from?“.  The show is over 25 artists’ take on the Tuolumne river, the source of water for 25 million people in the San Francisco Bay Area,  and ranges from the molecular, infrastructure, and end use levels.  The pieces I’m showing in this exhibit are three of my water diatom series, “Single-Celled Cities #3, 8, &14“.  The show sounds like it will be amazing and informational and I encourage anyone near the San Francisco area on September 11th to check out the opening reception.

Click HERE for the Facebook invite.

When: Show runs: September 4th – October 3rd
Opening Reception: Thursday, Sept. 11, 6:30 – 9pm
Where: Capital One 360 Cafe—101 Post Street, San Francisco CA

Embedded

My piece in the show, "Passage".

My piece in the show: “Passage”.

August is almost here and this summer that means one thing: an encaustic show and workshop with the IEA!  I’m a member of the Portland Chapter of the International Encaustic Artists which is a professional artist’s group working in encaustic.  We show work together, participate in workshops and retreats, attend each others art receptions, and generally have a good time eating and drinking while talking about art.  We’ve been planning this show and workshop for a while now and I’m excited it’s just around the corner!

Both the show and workshop are held at the Atelier 6000 Gallery in Bend, which specializes in printmaking and book arts.  The show, titled Embedded, is a juried collection of encaustic work from 13 IEA member artists that incorporates wax layered over drawings, original prints, and hand-made papers.  The workshop will focus on combining printmaking and encaustic and I’ll post pictures of the work I make after I get home.

If you happen to be in Bend during August you should definitely stop by and check out the show.  If you’re lucky enough to be there on August 1st come by from 5:00-8:30pm for the artist reception to meet my fellow IEA members.

When: August 1-30th, Artist reception Friday August 1st 5:00-8:30pm.

Where: 389 SW Scalehouse Ct. Ste 120 Bend, OR 97702

Open Mon-Fri 9:30–4 pm, Sat 12-4 pm

Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts

Single-Celled City #6I’m excited this year to be a part of the 51st annual Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts.  I will have three pieces in the “Artist’s Vision Exhibit: Tiny Visions” at the Lakewood Center Main level.  The theme of this show was small in size and theme so my 4″x4″ microscopic paintings of water diatoms fit in nicely.  The festival runs June 20-22nd and is huge so you’ll need all three days if you don’t want to miss anything!

When: June 20, 21st and 22nd
10:00 AM – 9:00 PM Friday & Saturday
10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Sunday

Where: Lakewood Center for the Arts 368 S. State Street, Lake Oswego

This year I’m part of another show themed around love, the “Love of Portland” show at the People’s Art of Portland.  This will be my third year participating in this amazing show which asks artists to demonstrate their love of our wonderfully weird city.  Bridges, beer, bikes, birds, beards… anything that says “I love you Portland!”.  The show also features the Portland poster artist, Gary Houston.  Come join the party, have some drinks, enjoy the music, and see how artists are showing their love for our city.

The Heart of the Matter

I’m a little late in posting about this event, but the show is still up so it’s not too late to see all the wonderful art!

I’m happy to announce that I’m part of another annual show at the Guardino Gallery, “The Heart of the Matter“.  It’s a heart themed show in time for Valentine’s Day, with many different artists creating their own spin on the themes of hearts or love.  The reception has already passed, but the show is still up so stop by and take a look.  This Valentine’s Day, maybe you could buy a piece of local art for that special person (or yourself!) instead of flowers or chocolate.  Remember, there is no HEART without ART.

When: Show runs: January 30 – February 23rd
Where: 2939 NE Alberta St, Portland, OR 97211

Open: Tues. 11 to 5 PM, Wed. through Sat. 11 to 6 PM, Sun 11 to 4 PM
