Bee Thinking

I’m excited to announce that a small series of my work is in a new venue, a bee keeping shop!  The store is called Bee Thinking and it turns out that it’s actually owned and run by a guy I knew from high school (if you knew the size of my school was you’d realize how unusual that is) Matt Reed and his wife Jill.  I was wandering around the neighborhood one day after dropping art off at the Love Art! Gallery and stopped in to see if they had any wax to sell because I wanted to start making my own medium.  It turned out they weren’t selling wax, but I realized that this was Matt’s store I had seen on Facebook.  Later he asked if I’d be interested in putting some pieces in the shop because paintings made from beeswax might be a good fit in a bee keeping shop.  I dropped off a small series of three paintings, got to talking with Matt about bee keeping and am now totally obsessed with the idea of not only making my own paints, but harvesting wax from my own bee hives!  I highly recommend stopping by the store to learn more about bees, hives, buy some delicious honey, and maybe take home one of my paintings while you’re there 🙂

First Friday Reception

I’ve been so busy catching up after being sick and coming back from the artist retreat that I’ve neglected my site and my blogging.  I promise I’ll update about the retreat and all it’s wonderful-ness soon, but I realized I forgot to remind my faithful fans that tomorrow is the First Friday reception for the Encaustic Masters: Inspirational Visual Voices show at the Columbia River Gallery.  It’s in Troutdale from 5-8pm, it’s free, there should be some snacks and wine, and there will be LOTS of encaustic art to ogle.

Seriously there are about 70 different artists who work with encaustic in some way showing art in one gallery, so if you’ve ever been curious as to what you can do with wax, come check out the show!  There are a lot of important names in the encaustic world showing some of their best work, and it’s the most exciting show I’ve ever been a part of.  I have two pieces in the show, and people can still vote for the people’s choice award…not to say I’d sway the vote but if you just happened to like mine the best I’d appreciate a few tallies in my name 🙂

The address is: 305 E. Columbia River Hwy. • Troutdale, OR • 503 491-8407

There is street parking and places to eat dinner around the area, so make a night of it!  I’ll be there so I hope to see some of you.  Again, sorry for the late notice.  Nothing like being out of town for 4 days only to return and get sick for a week to make you feel on top of things.

Peace!

Encaustic Masters Show

I’m so excited to be a part of the Encaustic Masters: Inspirational Visual Voices Show!  I have two new paintings in the show which is exciting because it’s my first juried show and includes encaustic artists from all over the US and Canada, even some international artists.  Many of the artists in the show are also coming to the retreat so I can’t wait to sit down and talk to them over the four days we’ll be at Edgefield.

The show has two receptions, the first one is on Thursday, September 22nd at 5:30 p.m., where most artists will be in attendance, and the second is Friday, October 7th, as part of Troutdale’s First Friday Art Walk.  This is your chance to see an encaustic art show and experience the medium’s diversity.  For more information visit the Columbia River Gallery’s website: http://columbiarivergallery.com/encaustic-masters-inspirational-visual-voices/

I hope to see people there!

First Friday – Love Art! Gallery

Bah!  I’ve been so out of it this week because of the craziness of summer ending that I totally forgot it’s First Friday today!  Like First Thursday in the Pearl, First Friday is where the galleries stay open later in the SE and usually have new exhibitions, snacks, and sometimes music.  I might try to stop by the Westmoreland galleries tonight so I hope to see some people there!  Here is a link to the flyer for the Love Art! Gallery’s First Friday event:

International Encaustic Artist Retreat

I’m really excited for the International Encaustic Artist retreat in September at Edgefield McMenamins.  It’s from the 22nd to the 25th and it will be all day work shops, seminars, meetings, and presentations all about encaustics!  I get to meet some of my favorite local artists, learn tons of helpful information, eat some awesome food and even participate in an encaustic show.  I’ll post more about the show when I receive details about which of my pieces was accepted.  For more information about IEA check out their website: http://www.international-encaustic-artists.org/
