The Oregon Holocaust Resource Center is having an online auction which I’m excited to be participating in as a donating artist.
“The auction will run from February 6, 2012 to February 19, 2012, with proceeds going to Oregon Holocaust Resource Center in order to support our vital programs. Auction items range from exotic vacation getaways to donated items guaranteed to delight and surprise. So, tell your friends, family, community. Let the bidding begin!” -from the OHRC auction page
My donated piece is a small encaustic painting with an impression of a real gingko leaf. I wanted to donate this piece when I learned of the auction because gingko trees are known as survivors. They are one of the oldest living species, having been through several ice ages, and even survived the atomic bomb at Hiroshima. Therefore the gingko tree is known as the “bearer of hope” and is a symbol of peace and longevity. I couldn’t think of a more fitting painting to donate to the Holocaust Center.
